The 38th story of a full-length business novel.
In the past and recent years, the world powers were and are ambitious and power-hungry.
As self-seekers, they were and are diamond cut diamond. Full of guile, arrogance and obsequiousness, they have been second to none in concealing their feline amenities. And they were and are real and/or potential enemies to each other. They couldn’t have rocky friendships with others. In this point, they are almost alike. Of course, they do know it that:
“There is no common ground for sharing the power. As empire-builders we can never become good friends in the forthcoming ‘what if game’.”
Therefore, they look at each other with yellow looks and intend to harm each other as competitor. Of course, they, as dreamers, know that co-operations and alliances are needed to be successful in this earthly vulgarly game. But all of it is not an ultimate goal at all. Doing such a thing is simply part of tools to rise to power. It was not and is not disputable because it was and is a plain fact in the earthly world.
However, the rage for power breeds enmity, further death feud. Nonetheless, they did not and do not mind such a tragedy because power was and is blind. That is why they capture the power. This is the spell of the Empire such as the Rome, the British or the Mongolian Empire.
Geographically, Asia and the Pacific has been a potential area of advance for any predatory force. For the reason, there has been a saying from time immemorial that:
“The power that rules Asia and the Pacific
is the power that rules the world.”
In reality, like the saying the world superpowers have sought for their anabases into the main Asian continent since the human history began. The most ambitious Greek warrior, Alexander the Great, invaded and conquered the Persian Empire in the Middle East. As Pretender to the throne of the entire world, he continuously tried to advance to the East. Then he wanted to subjugate the subcontinent India in search of a diamond crown. But he met across Indians’ strong resistance. As a result, his campaign stopped there. Thus, he could not find out the diamond crown symbolizing the ruler of the world. Without it, he couldn’t rule over the world as King of the world.
So-called the Mistress of the World, the old Roman Empire, could not reach out the main Asian land, either. In the earlier 19th century Napoleon Bonaparte also tried to wage the Eastern campaign named the Russian expedition. But, he, too, failed. Only the Mongolian warrior, Genghis Khan, conquered the main Asian continent and the Central Asia. Then his mobile troops with horse carriage crossed the Ural Mountains and invaded the Eastern Europe. Below are his military campaign and his Empire. (Source: Wikimedia Commons)
But he did not hear of the intriguing news that India had lots of diamond mines. So he stopped there. So he did not get diamonds from India in his hands. For the reason, he couldn’t cap the diamond crown even if he built up one of the greatest Empires in the world.
Later, the sea route was discovered across the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean. So, European powers such as Portugal, Spain, Holland, and the British reached out the seashore of Asia and the Pacific. Then they could hear of the good news that nuggets of diamond were coming out from the subcontinent of India. Actually, diamond was discovered long ago in Golconda,India. And it was regarded as King of Jewels. Thus, Hindu, Rajput, Iranian, Mughal, Afghan, and Sikh fought against each other over the precious diamond and other jewels.
However, the western powers such as Portugal, Spain, and the Dutch never understood why they fought against each other. But, England was different. She happened to hear of the news and the reason why they struggled with each other. Then she got some information over the diamond. Further, she came to know of the name of the diamond mine. It was Golconda. At the time, it was the biggest diamond mine in India. Under such a background an Englishman came to get a big diamond in his hands. Then he presented it to the Queen Victoria. Pleased with it, she ordered her men to shape it into a diamond crown. The scale of the crown was 105.6 metric carats, weighing 21.6 grams. Seeing the crown she christened it Koh-i-Noor. It meant Mountain of Light. (Below is the British diamond. Source: Wikipedia, Chris 73)
Then she capped it as her crown on her head. Then she daringly proclaimed herself the Empress of India with the diamond crown. Thereafter, the English came to rule the subcontinent legally. Also the English nation came to be called the Great British Empire including India. Presumably the mystical power of the diamond crown must have given Victoria the golden chance. Right, since then on the British become the greatest Empire in the world in history. Nonetheless, the Empire did not seize all of the diamonds that were excavated from Golconda. According to the Indian people, Golconda was one of the diamond mines for nuggets of diamond. Thus, lots of diamonds had been dug out of the mines. So Koh-i-Noor was one of them. Among them, there were two biggest diamonds; by name Noor-ol-Ain Tiara & Darya-ye Noor. Noor-ol-Ain means ‘Light of the Eye.’ And Darya-ye Noor means ‘Sea of Light.’ Both of them were the symbols representing absolute rulers over India. So they belonged to the Mughal Emperors. However, the two had been already taken by Persian King, Nadir Shah before the British got the precious information on the Jades. So the information was too late and useless for the British to take an action to capture them in their hands.
