SEOUL, KOREA - Merck Korea (Managing Director: Dr. Michael Grund) supports “Take the Next Baby Steps” Campaign for Fertility Awareness Month 2014 co-sponsored by ASPIRE (Asia Pacific Initiative on Reproduction) and KSRM (Korea Society for Reproductive Medicine) during August 2014.

The campaign, held for the second time following 2013, will provide practical help to the couples who experience difficulties conceiving through various programs that will deliver accurate knowledge and raise awareness surrounding fertility. Campaign period has been lengthen from 1 week (2013) to 1 month (2014) to provide enough information. Merck Korea supports this campaign for 2 years.

Additionally, information including definitions, misconceptions, hindrances, and treatments regarding infertility will be provided via online. Especially, on and offline campaigns will be the opportunity for the struggling couples to share problems that were naturally difficult to discuss and to visit doctors and fertility specialists for counseling.

Meanwhile, “Take the Next Baby Steps” campaign for Fertility Awareness Month 2014 presented by Merck Serono divisions in 10 Asian countries including Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, and Philippines anticipate giving infertile couples hope and courage.

Infertility is a condition of the reproductive system, which healthy couples are unsuccessful in conceiving over a period of time even in perfectly normal married life and is estimated to affect 1 out of 10 couples in Asia and 1 out of 7 in Korea. Asia has one of the lowest birth rates in the world having already dropped below the population replacement level. Numbers of infertile patients are increasing yet due to their lack of knowledge about the causes and the risk factors, misconceptions, and negative biases, they are passive in exposing themselves for counsel and treatments. Therefore, “Take the Next Baby Steps” Campaign for Fertility Awareness Month 2014 is committed to delivering accurate information and encouraging couples that are in need of help to seek for treatments.
