SEOUL, KOREA - GS Engineering & Construction said on August 20 that its Brazilian unit GS Inima Brazil has won a sewer management project for the country's Alagoas state water utility Casal. GS Inima Brazil is a company established to win long-term water treatment businesses in the South American nation. It will carry out the project in the Benedito Bentes district in the city of Macelo, the state capital of Alagoas.

GS Inima succeeded in landing the contract in cooperation with a local consortium partner. Of the US$767-million deal, GS Inima will be responsible for 60 percent ($460 million).

GS Inima will take charge of building new wastewater treatment facilities, existing facility maintenance, and water supply and sewer billing for the next 30 years. Do Jae-seung, executive with GS E&C, said, "As we have steadily increased business track records in the water treatment area, we could expand our markets to previously untapped regions such as Europe, South America, and Africa."
