SEOUL, KOREA - In the upcoming Chuseok holidays, as many as 900,000 passengers will go through Incheon International Airport.
According to Incheon International Airport Corp. on September 1, an average of 130,000 passengers will go in and out of the airport in a day, with a total of 890,000 for the seven-day holiday between September 5 and 11. The Chuseok holiday has been lengthened as the government allowed from this year people to take days off on holidays that fall on weekends.
This is up by almost 200,000 from last year's 705,608 during the six-day holiday from September 17 to 22. In particular, on September 6 when the holiday begins, the daily passenger number using the airport is estimated to be 150,000, breaking the record set last year at 126,000.
The airport authorities will run task forces during the peak time, with 40 percent more parking staff and the beginning time for some of the security inspection gates moving up by 30 minutes. An airport corporation official said, "In order to avoid congestion and thus not to miss the flight, it is advisable to arrive at the airport 3 hours before the flight time and check the signboard in advance for departure gate status and items not allowed on board.
