LG Display Kick-Starts Operations of New LCD Panel Plant in China

SEOUL, KOREA - LG Display kick-started the operation of its new LCD panel plant in Guangzhou in China on September 1.By securing its own panel manufacturing plant in China, the world’s largest TV market, LG Display expects to make bigger forays into the Chinese market.

On the same day, LG Display held a completion ceremony for the 8.5G (2,200 x 2,500mm) LCD panel plant, attended by LG chairman Koo Bon-Moo. The plant is an outcome of tripartite partnership among the Guangzhou Economic & Technological Development District, Skyworth, and LG. The investment ratio between the partners is 7:2:1.

With a floor space of 330,000 square meters, the new plant is capable of producing 60,000 units of LCD panels per month.With the establishment of the Guangzhou plant, LG Display’s monthly 8G production capacity is expanded up to 450,000 units, accounting for 15 percent in the world market.

An LG Display official said, “We will focus on the production of 42-, 49-, and 52-inch premium TV displays.” He added, “We plan to expand the Guangzhou plant’s monthly production capacity up to 120,000 units by the end of 2016.”
