SEOUL, KOREA – Hyundai Mobis, an auto parts supplier headquartered in Seoul, said on Tuesday it won a USD530 million order to supply automotive lamps to US automaker Chrysler in its biggest lamp deal ever with Chrylser.
The recent deal is Hyundai Mobis’s fifth lamp supply deal with Chrysler. Hyundai Mobis has supplied auto parts to Chrysler since 2002. Acknowledging the excellence of Hyundai Mobis’s head and rear lamps, Chrysler has continued to enlarge its business with this South Korean auto supplier. Hyundai Mobis last year commercialized LED AFLS (Adaptive Front Lighting System) for the first time in Korea and succeeded in developing AILS (Active Intelligent Lighting System) early this year.
Lee Jun-hyeong, vice president of Hyundai Mobis’s Foreign Business HQ, said, “We signed our first-ever overseas contract with Chrysler. We will build a strategic partnership with our long-time partner Chrysler by further enhancing mutual trust and expanding our collaboration to other strategic products.”

현대모비스, 크라이슬러에 5억3000만달러 규모 램프 공급
현대모비스는 미국 크라이슬러와 5억3000만달러(약 6000억원) 규모 전조등 및 후미등 공급 계약을 체결했다고 16일 밝혔다. 이번 계약은 2007년 이후 현대모비스가 크라이슬러와 맺은 5번의 계약 가운데 가장 큰 규모다.
현대모비스는 2002년 크라이슬러와 첫 인연을 맺은 이후 2006년 지프 랭글러 섀시모듈, 2010년 지프 그랜드 체로키 전면섀시모듈 등 적용 차종과 적용 품목을 꾸준히 확대해왔다. 특히 전조등 및 후미등 기술력을 인정받으며 크라이슬러와 계약을 확대하고 있다. 현대모비스는 지난해 국내 최초로 LED 첨단전조등시스템(AFLS)을 상용화한데 이어 올 초에는 지능형전조등시스템(AILS)을 개발하는데 성공했다.
이준형 해외사업본부장(부사장)은 “크라이슬러는 현대모비스가 가장 처음 계약을 맺은 해외완성차업체로 그 의미가 남다르다”며 “앞으로 신뢰를 통해 협력 관계를 더욱 공고히 하는 것은 물론 다른 전략 제품에 대한 영업을 확대해 전략적 동반자 관계를 구축해 갈 것”이라고 말했다.
