SEOUL, KOREA - LG Electronics sold 10.3 million units of smartphones in the first quarter of this year, renewing its quarterly smartphone sales record. The previous record was set in the fourth quarter of last year when it sold 8.6 million smartphones.

The first quarter smartphone sales represented a 20 percent growth compared to a quarter ago and a more than 2-fold jump from a year ago.

LG's record-breaking smartphone sales were driven mainly by its Optimus G Pro, which was sold more than 500,000 units in 40 days after being launched. LG's other smartphones such as Optimus Vu and L Series also performed well in the global markets.

LG's mobile phone sales, including the sales of general feature phones, totaled 16.2 million units in the January-March period of this year, up 5 percent year on year.
From this year onwards, LG Electronics plans to strengthen its two-track strategy that pursues both profitability and growth. LG Electronics expects its second quarter results to remain strong, backed by Optimus G Pro which will expand the scope of overseas sales from the second quarter.
