BUSAN, KOREA - The Busan Metropolitan City said on May 1 that it has devised a plan to revitalize the city following the passage of the special law for urban redevelopment in the National Assembly on April 30.
The plan involves establishing a total of 50 community-level social enterprises with a total cost of 3 trillion won. The city government expects that the effort would create 2,500 new jobs.
The main areas of development include strengthening of urban infrastructures, urban gentrification projects, and renovation of dilapidated neighborhoods through introduction of renewable energy sources. To these ends, the city government set 25 tasks for promotion including creation of environmentally friendly living spaces, job information exchanges, and urban farming initiatives.
The city government will press ahead with the tasks once the community support center opens on May 14 which will lead the urban rejuvenation projects throughout the city.
