SEOUL, KOREA - Hyundai Motor said on May 2 that it would install 10-megawatt solar power panels on the roofs of its plants in Asan, South Chungcheon Province, in partnership with the Korea Midland Power Co.
The annual electricity output from these installations would be 11.5 million kWh, the largest scale in Korea among roof-type solar power generation systems.

The company will mount a total of 40,000 photovoltaic modules on the roofs of four factory buildings within the Asan plant complex. The total roof area is 213,000 square meters. As roof-type solar panels are built on already-existing spaces, they have the advantage of not destroying natural habitats or damaging the surrounding environment.

Once the solar power installations are completed, these will generate electricity of 11.5 million kWh, equivalent to an amount 3,200 households can use for one year. The operations of the solar panels will be handled by Hyundai Asan Solar Power, a special-purpose company. The electricity generated will be supplied to surrounding areas including the City of Asan.
