Ssangyong Motor Revives Day-and-night Two Shift Work Scheme

Wednesday, May 8th, 2013

SEOUL, KOREA - Ssangyong Motor plans to revive its day-and-night two shift work scheme at its Pyeongtaek plant from May 13. This is the first time for the company to launch the around-the-clock two shifts since it filed for a court receivership and suffered a labor strike in 2009.

Ssangyong decided to make the 454 workers who have been on an unpaid leave of absence and are scheduled to be reinstated from May 13, work at the Pyeongtaek plant's No. 3 line, reviving the two shift scheme.

The Pyeongtaek plant has three production lines, all of which have been in operations only during daytime. The No.3 line is engaged in the production of Rexton W and Korando Sports, in addition to export models Kyron and Actyon.

Ssangyong Motor still remains in the red but its sales shows signs of improving. In the first quarter of this year, the company sold 31,265 units, including domestic sales of 13,293 and exports of 17,972, up 18.2 percent from the same quarter last year.
