SEOUL, KOREA – World IT Show (WIS) 2013, Korea’s largest information communications technology (ICT) trade fair, opened on Tuesday at the COEX convention center in southeastern Seoul. Under the theme “Smart Life, Simple IT,” the four-day WIS 2013 will be open from May 21 through 24.
Co-hosted by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and the Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy (MOTIE), the WIS 2013 offers visitors great opportunities to read the latest trends in technologies and products developed by ICT companies from home and abroad.
The WIS 2013 features a market place where strategic products and services, developed by domestic companies (e.g. Samsung, LG Electronics, SK Telecom and KT) and foreign companies including Qualcomm, are on display.
Also in the wings is G-TEK/ITRC Forum, a new technology marketplace designed to encourage the sharing of R&D results and technology transfer among SMEs, venture capital companies and university IT centers.
The WIS, which was taken part in by 435 companies (59 of which came from abroad) from 18 nations and visited by 168,000 people last year, has entrenched itself as the largest domestic IT festival in Korea.

국내 최대 규모의 정보통신기술(ICT) 전시회인 `2013 월드IT쇼(WIS:World IT Show)`가 21일부터 24일까지 나흘간 서울 삼성동 코엑스에서 개최된다.
미래창조과학부와 산업통상자원부가 공동 주최하는 올해 WIS는 `스마트 라이프, 심플 아이티(Smart Life, Simple IT)`를 주제로 국내외 ICT기업들의 혁신적 신기술과 신제품 트렌드를 읽을 수 있는 절호의 기회다.
또 삼성전자를 비롯해 LG전자•SK텔레콤•KT•퀄컴 등 국내외 유수 IT기업이 글로벌 시장을 겨냥해 내놓은 전략 제품과 서비스들을 한눈에 볼 수 있는 마켓 플레이스가 꾸며진다.
중소•벤처기업과 대학 IT연구센터들의 연구 성과를 공유하고 기술 이전을 도모하는 신기술 장터인 `G-TEK/ITRC 포럼`도 별도로 마련된다.
이와 함께 `창조경제포럼`을 비롯해 `차세대 스마트 빅데이터 전략 솔루션 및 스마트 BI 실제 구현 성공사례 콘퍼런스` `아시아 주요 통신사 사업설명회 및 일대일 비즈니스 미팅` `미래창조과학 국제 콘퍼런스` 등 각종 부대행사도 열린다.
WIS는 지난해 세계 18개국 435개사(해외 59개사), 1356부스 규모로 개최돼 16만8000여명의 관람객이 방문하는 등 명실상부한 국내 최대 IT 축제로 자리매김하고 있다. 또 해외 14개국 40개 회사와 9000만달러 이상의 계약 상담 실적을 일궈내는 등 ICT 수출의 장으로도 제 몫을 했다.
내년 WIS는 부산에서 열린다. 미래창조과학부는 내년 WIS 행사를 국제전기통신연합(ITU) 전권회의와 연계해 개최하기로 했다. ITU 전권회의는 전 세계 193개국 대표가 모여 ICT 정책을 결정하는 총회다. 내년 10월 부산에서 3주 일정으로 개최된다.
올해 나흘간의 WIS 행사 기간 중 비즈니스 관람은 개막일인 21일부터 23일까지 사흘간이다. 일반 관람은 24일 하루로 예정돼 있다.
