SEOUL, KOREA - Samsung Electronics overtook Nokia in Finland's smartphone market, grabbing the No. 1 spot there. According to a market research firm IDC, Samsung Electronics sold 211,000 smartphones in Finland in the first quarter of this year, higher than Nokia's 196,000.
Samsung Electronics' market share reached 36.1 percent, a 2.5 percentage points higher than Nokia's 33.6 percent. A year ago, the situation was reverse. Nokia had a 48-percent market share a year ago, dwarfing Samsung Electronics' 28 percent.
Following Samsung Electronics and Nokia was Apple which had a market share of 14 percent in Finland. Samsung Electronics has maintained its No. 1 spot in the global mobile phone market since it overtook Nokia first in the first quarter of 2012. Even in the smartphone market, the company has maintained its leadership since the third quarter of 2011.
