SEOUL, KOREA – In the first quarter of this year, Samsung Electronics’ memory business division smiled while its system LSI business division frowned. Samsung Electronics raised its share of the global memory semiconductor market while its SoC business lost ground.
According to market research firm IHS iSuppli, Samsung Electronics posted USD 4.72 billion in sales of memory semiconductors in the first quarter, up 4.4% q-o-q. Notching up a 33.3% market share, Samsung Electronics sold twice as many memory semiconductors as second-placed SK Hynix did. Samsung’s sales of SoCs stood at USD 2.67 billion with a 5.0% share, down from the previous quarter’s 5.9%. In total, Samsung’s share slid 0.6%p q-o-q with USD 7.77 billion in total sales.
As the entire semiconductor industry has been running on all cylinders since last quarter in a situation where there is no new facility investment, changes in rankings and shares are unlikely for the time being in the memory semiconductor sector. The fall in Samsung’s SoC business probably stemmed from Apple opting out of its AP foundry partnership with Samsung.

삼성, 올 1분기 반도체 점유율 성적 '희비'엇갈려
삼성전자의 1분기 DS부문 메모리사업부와 시스템LSI사업부의 성적이 엇갈렸다. 메모리반도체는 점유율을 더욱 넓힌 반면 시스템반도체 사업 점유율은 소폭 하락했다.
3일 시장조사업체 아이서플라이에 따르면 삼성전자의 올 1분기 메모리반도체 매출액은 47억1900만달러를 기록, 지난 분기보다 4.4% 상승했다. 점유율은 33.3%로 2위 SK하이닉스에 비해 두배 가까이 팔았다. 시스템반도체 매출액은 26억7500만달러로 시장 점유율은 5.0%다. `톱3` 자리는 유지했지만 지난 분기 5.9%에 비해 다소 줄었다. 전체 매출액은 77억7400만달러고 전 분기보다 점유율은 0.6%포인트 하락했다.
메모리 반도체는 치킨 게임 이후 신규 증설 투자가 없는 상황에서 전 업계가 지난 분기부터 풀가동 체제에 들어가면서 당분간 순위나 점유율 변화가 없을 것으로 예상된다. 삼성전자 시스템반도체 점유율 하락은 애플의 애플리케이션프로세서(AP) 외주생산(파운드리)을 중단한데 따른 것으로 풀이된다.
한편 반도체 업계 1위 인텔은 111억6800만 달러로 15.1%를 기록했다.
