Seoul, Korea - LG Electronics announced on the 18th that the name of next premium G Series smartphone to be launched next month will be 'LG G2.'
The company expected that it will be able to fight a good battle in the premium smartphone market only with the brand name 'G,' without 'Optimus'. The brand, 'Optimus,' will only be used for the mid-to-low tier product line up.
LG is also to take Optimus away from its another premium smartphone, the Vu Series which has the 4:3 display ratio.
G2 is to be showcased in New York next month and expected to continue the legacy and performance of the G Series. LG Electronics was able to move up to the global 3rd place in number of smartphones sold during the Q1 this year, with the successes of Optimus G and Optimus G Pro.
G2 is powered by Snapdragon 800 processor by Qualcomm that can provide LTE-A service and has a highly efficient battery. Jongsuk Park, Vice President of LG Electronics commented, ""the new brand policy for G Series will bring LG smartphones to a new level and change the global market trend."
