CJ HelloVision May End Its Cable System Operator Shopping Spree

SEOUL, KOREA- CJ HelloVision, a multiple cable system operator, has so far acquired four regional system operators as a way to increase its subscriber base.The company said on July 29 in a regulatory filing that it would purchase 1.36 million shares in Korea Cable TV's Jeonbuk Broadcasting at 58.3 billion won. With the latest transaction, CJ HelloVision will become a 100-percent owner in the company. Established in October 1997, Jeonbuk Broadcasting has 120,000 subscribers in North Jeolla Province including its provincial capital Jeonju.
 
CJ HelloVision, a CJ Group company, has been aggressive in acquiring regional system operators this year to date. Following the purchase of Nara Broadcasting, the system operator covering northern Gyeonggi Province, early this year, the company has bought out Yeongseo (western Gangwon Province) and Honam Broadcasting (southwestern South Jeolla Province) at 48.2 billion won and 124.0 billion won, respectively, in June.
 
Including Jeonbuk Broadcasting, it is estimated that CJ HelloVision has so far acquired 530,000 additional subscribers. A CJ HelloVision official said, "As we have almost achieved the target in our acquisition plan, we will focus from now on more on creating synergies among existing and newly acquired companies."
