Samsung SDI Inks Exclusive ESS Supply Deal with S&C of the UK

SEOUL, KOREA- Samsung SDI, the No. 1 player in the world’s small secondary cell market, is making forays into Europe’s large cell market with its Energy Storage Systems (ESS).Samsung SDI announced on July 29 that it signed an exclusive ESS supply deal with S&C of the UK. Prior to this deal, Samsung SDI signed ESS supply contracts with Germany’s WEMAG and Italy’s Enel.

ESS is a system that makes it possible to store electricity and use it at a time and place needed. If it is used at a peak time when electricity demand is high, it can contribute to enhancing the efficiency of electricity usage.

ESS also can be used to stabilize the output when producing new recyclable energy such as solar and wind power.

Under terms of the deal, Samsung SDI, together with Germany’s Younicos, will supply 10MWh ESSs to S&C. The ESSs will be used to stabilize power supply and will be installed in Buzzard region, 69km northwest away from London.
