SEOUL, KOREA- SK Telecom announced on July 30 that it posted sales of 4.16 trillion won, an operating profit of 553.4 billion won, and a net profit of 467.7 billion won for the second quarter of this year on a K-IFRS basis.Its sales grew on the back of a steady increase in the number of LTE subscribers, and the growth of B2B solution business, one of SK Telecom’s three growth engines.
SK Telecom said that LTE subscribers accounted for more than 40 percent, or 11.02 million, of its total subscribers as of the end of June. The number of LTE-A network users reached 300,000 in just one month after the service was commercialized first in the world on June 26.
Operating profit grew by 34.8 percent quarter on quarter and 33.2 percent year on year, thanks to a decline in marketing expenses. SK Telecom’s total marketing expenses marked a 5.9-percent decline quarter on quarter and an 11.2-percent decline year on year.
Net profit also rose by 35.2 percent compared to a quarter ago thanks to an increase in operating profit resulting from market stabilization, plus the improvement in the performance of the company in which it invested. SK Hynix achieved record-high results in the second quarter, registering 3.93 trillion won in sales, 1.11 trillion won in operating profit, and 947 billion won in net profit.
