SEOUL, KOREA- Ssangyong Motor and Renault Samsung are set to compete to grab a No. 4 spot in the Korean car market until the end of this year. The company is preparing to escape from the bottom, attempting to solidify a No. 4 position on the back of the popularity of three Korando model—Korando C, Korando Sports, and Korando Turismo.
During the seven-month period from January to July 2013, Ssangyong Motor led Renault Samsung by about 3,600 units in domestic sales, raising expectations that it would be able to escape from the No. 5 position this year, first in nine years.
On August 7, Ssangyong Motor rolled out the New Korando C that features strengthened interior and exterior designs and convenience specs. The New Korando C looks more impressive with a change in exterior design and an improvement in interior specs.
Ssangyong Motor aims to sell 9,000 units of the New Korando C at home, while exporting 16,000 units by the end of this year. During the period from January to July 2013, Ssangyong Motor sold 35,054 units, up 34.8 percent year on year, the most outstanding growth among Korea’s five major car makers.
