LG Display Says, "IPS is Superior to VA Even in UHD"

SEOUL, KOREA- LG Display announced on September 2 that its optical view technology IPS was proven to have superior viewing angle than VA even in the category of UHD products, by the UK's product safety certification organization Intertek.IPS is a technology that widens the scope of viewing angle by making the liquid crystal move horizontally. IPS is now adopted for iPhone. VA, a technology that moves liquid crystal on a vertical manner, is not employed by most of panel makers, including Samsung Display, Sharp, and AU Optronics.

Intertek conducted a comparative analysis of color difference, visibility and gamma distortion rate, with LG Display's 83-inch UHD model (model name: 84LM9600) and Samsung Electronics' 85-inch UHD product (model name: UN85S9AF).

The analysis results showed that LG model's color difference and gamma distortion rate were 65 percent and 94 percent lower, respectively, than those of VA technology-based 85-inch models. The former's visibility is 73 percent higher than those of VA models, indicating that IPS has superior viewing quality than VA.
