SEOUL, KOREA- SK Engineering and Construction said on September 2 that it hit a milestone of 50-million man-hours without an accident in the Ruwais Refinery Expansion Project underway in the United Arab Emirates. The company broke the 41-million man-hour record in an oil gathering center modernization project in Kuwait set by itself in 2008.

The 50-million man-hour feat can be achieved by mobilizing 1,000 workers for 13 years and nine months with 10 hours of work every day. The contractor said it would be able to break the 60-million man-hour record by the time it completes the project in February next year.

The Ruwais Refinery Expansion Project involves up to 13,000 workers a day with more than 200 construction vehicles. Under the adverse conditions of extreme heat and sand storms, managing workers from 17 different countries all across the world requires gargantuan effort, to say the least.

Kang Jae-jun, SK E&C's head of chemical engineering plant division, said, "With strict management in safety, health, and environment areas, we are raising our visibility and reputation in the world."
