SK E&C Wins $174 Mil. Subway Project in Singapore

Friday, September 6th, 2013
SEOUL, KOREA- SK Engineering & Construction said on September 5 that it won a US$174-million subway construction order commissioned by Singapore's Land Transport Authority. As part of the second-stage project linking a 16.6-kilometer line between Bugis and Bukit Panjang, SK E&C will be responsible for the section 918A between Botanic Gardens and Sixth Avenue, involving two 940-meter underground tunnels, one train station, and an open-cut tunnel.

An SK E&C official said, "We could win the final bidding for our ability to complete the project earlier than planned. The construction on the section 918A began in 2009 but it was halted in the middle because of the principal contractor's bankruptcy. For this reason, whether to speed up the project was the most important criterion for selection."

Earlier, SK E&C had won two subway projects from LTAbetween 2009 and 2011. With the latest deal, the contractor has a total of six construction projects under way in Singapore, including three subway projects for LTA, two cable underground tunnel projects, and an access road to Sentosa Island in the south of the city state.
