Online Sales of Used Items on Steep Rise

SEOUL, KOREA- The trading of used items is increasing at a rapid pace with the scope of items expanding from home electronics, laptop computers, apparels, and daily necessities toward premium high-end items.
The sales of used goods at an online mall 11st during the period from January to August 2013 marked a two-fold jump year on year. After it opened a used item section "Used Street" in the first quarter of last year, its sales of used items have been on an upward trend.
The number of second-hand goods registered there stood at 700,000, with the number of sellers estimated at 3,000. 11st expects the number of used item sellers to shoot up to about 100,000 within the next three years.
Another online shopping mall G-Market also saw its sales of used goods rise by 51 percent last year compared to a year ago. Auction marked a 30-percent year-on-year growth in sales of used goods during the January-August period of this year.
