Thursday, September 26th, 2013

SEOUL, KOREA- The number of Korean travelers who visited Guam this year marked a robust year-on-year growth of about 40 percent. According to Jeju Air on September 25, the number of Koreans who visited Guam during the nine-month period from October 2012 to July 2013 totaled 189,707, up 37.8 percent from the same period in 2011-12.

Jeju Air joined the Korea-Guam route in October 2012. Jeju Air explained that one of the key factors behind the rise in the number of Korean visitors to Guam is its launch into the Korea-Guam air service market which has been dominated by incumbents. Since its service inauguration to and from Guam, Jeju Air has transported 135,000 passengers, making contribution to the overall increase in the number of Korean visitors to Guam.

Since Jeju Air’s entry into the market, the share of FIT (free independent travel) has grown by about 9.8 percentage points. During the period from October 2012 to July 2013, the share of full package tourists declined by 6.3 percentage points to 50.2 percent from 56.5 percent.
