SEOUL, KOREA- Hyundai Mobis announced on September 26 that it passed the 50-million mark in cumulative domestic production of airbags in 11 years after it launched airbag production at home in 2002.Hyundai Mobis' Gimcheon plant, in North Gyeongsang Province, is engaged in the production of a variety of airbags, including those for driver seats, side airbags for passenger seats, and curtain and knee airbags. Hyundai Mobis has supplied airbags to the assembly plants of Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors, which mount them on vehicles for exports and domestic market.
Hyundai Mobis broke the 10-million mark in cumulative airbag production in 2007 and has produced about 10 million units of airbags since 2011. The rise in car sales and the strengthened safety regulations throughout the world have led to an increase in Hyundai Mobis' airbag production.
The company’s airbags are increasingly employed for small cars, including Kia Motors' Morning which is mounted with a total of seven airbags, including knee airbags, the first among the same-class models.
