SEOUL, KOREA - Taihan Electric Wire said on November 18 it won a series of orders worth US$42 million for the supply of its ultra-high-voltage cables to Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Kazakhstan. In the Middle East, the company landed a $32-million deal to supply cables to a power substation in Shadadiyah, Kuwait, and a $6-million order for underground cable lines for Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.
In Kazakhstan, Taihan Electric Wire will supply 500-kV ultra-high-voltage cables worth $4 million for a thermal power plant there. The 500-kV cables are produced by only five or six companies across the world. Taihan succeeded in clinching a deal to supply the cables in Russia in June this year, first among Korean cable suppliers.
A Taihan Electric Wire official said, "The latest achievement was made possible by our success in Russia, which proved the reliability of our cable products and technical prowess in installing them. In a situation where electricity authorities across the world are moving toward higher voltage transmission lines in order to reduce transmission losses, the latest deal will be a bright sign for us to expand our business throughout the world."
