Naver Line Breaks 300 Mil. Subscriber Mark

SEOUL, KOREA - A mobile messenger “Line,” created by Korea’s No. 1 portal service company Naver,passed the 300-million mark in the number of subscribers world wide. Naver’s Japanese subsidiary Line Corp. held a countdown event on November 25 in Tokyo where it announced that the number of its subscribers passed the 300-million mark at 2:26 pm on the day.

Launched with basic features such as free messenger and voice/image calls in June 2011, Line has expanded its functions to cover games, camera, and home decoration. It also launched new services such as comic strips, weather forecast, fortunetelling, and news in Japan from the second half of this year.

Line is now offered in about 230 countries worldwide, including Korea, Japan, China, Latin America, and Spain. It has 50 million subscribers in Japan, 20 million in Thailand, 17 million in Taiwan, and 15 million in Spain.
