SEOUL, KOREA - HyundaiMotor announced on January 2 that it sold 4,721,156 units worldwide last year,up 7.3 percent year on year. Domestic sales fell by 4 percent to 640,865 units,while overseas sales rose by 9.3 percent to 4,080,291 units.
Among overseas sales, the shipments of domestic factories fell by 5.4 percent due to labor strikes. The sales of overseas units, however, jumped by 16.5 percent thanks to its production expansion strategy.
By car type, Avante emerged as the best-selling model with sales of 942,442 units,including domestic sales of 93,966 units.Following Avante were Accent with 679,871 units, Tucson with 584,814 units, and Sonata with 475,400 units.
For last month, domestic sales fell by 20.5 percent to 50,160 units, while overseas sales rose by 5.9 percent to 347,376 units.Hyundai Motor set this year’s sales target at 4.9 million units, up 3.8 percent year on year, including domestic sales of 682,000 units and overseas sales of 4,218,000 units.
