Hyundai Dept. Store Enjoys 176% Growth in Sales of Dried Fish Gift Sets

SEOUL, KOREA - Hyundai Department Store said on January 9 that the sales of dried fish gift sets (corvina, hairtail, tile fish, and abalone) marked a 176-percent growth year on year during the Lunar New Year preorder sales event period.

 

In particular, the sales of dried corvina gift sets recorded a 3.5-fold growth compared to a year ago. The overall sales of domestic fish goods have remained sluggish in recent months due to the perceived health danger posed by the radioactive contamination reported in Japan.

In reality, the sales of fish goods marked a negative year-on-year growth of 4.3 percent in October, 5.0 percent in November, and 1.2 percent in December 2013.

It can be interpreted that the sales of fish goods which remained sluggish last year turned upward during the Lunar New Year event period. In addition to the dried corvina gift sets, the sales of Jeju tile fish and abalone gift sets also increased by about 50 percent from a year ago.
