SEOUL, KOREA - Vietnam’s apparel exports marked a double-digit growth last year, despite the slump of overseas markets, thereby leading the nation’s overall economic growth.

In particular, Korea has emerged as a major outlet for Vietnam as the country’s apparel exports to Korea recorded about 50 percent growth last year.

According to the Voice of Vietnam on January 9, the nation’s apparel exports amounted to about $19.8 billion last year, up 16.9 percent from a year ago. This figure is equivalent to about 15 percent of the nation’s total exports.

The increase in Vietnam’s apparel exports is attributable mainly to the increase in demand from major markets such as Korea and the United States. Vietnam’s leading apparel company Vinatex, in particular, saw its exports rise by about 12 percent to about $3 billion from a year ago.
