SEOUL, KOREA - Samsung Electronics, which maintained its No. 1 spot in the global TV market for eight straight years, kept its lead in the global commercial display, or large format display, market for five consecutive years.

LFD is a term referring to the smart advertising board “digital sinage,” a menu board for restaurants and fast food restaurants, and an electronic black board for conference purposes.

According to market research firm DisplaySearch, Samsung Electronics achieved a market share of 26.3 percent in the global LFD market in the January-September period of 2013, far higher than those of the No. 2 player NEC (10.4%).

Following them are LG Electronics with 5.8 percent, Sharp with 4.0 percent and Philips with 2.5 percent. The market share gap between Samsung Electronics and NEC widened to 15.9 percentage points last year from 8.7 percentage points in 2012 and 4.8 percentage points in 2011.

Since 2009, Samsung Electronics has maintained the No. 1 position in this market. The size of the global LFD market is expected to grow by 17 percent this year to 2.57 million units, although it marked a slight growth last year.
