A Hi-Mart official said, “Vacuum cleaners, together with air purifiers, are enjoying rising popularity as a solution to protect people from fine dust.”
He added, “Most of the consumers who visit the shop to buy vacuum cleaners, show stronger preference toward premium-level vacuum cleaners which are mounted with higher-performance filters.”
The price of premium cleaners mounted with a H13 class HEPA filter and is almost free from the emission of fine dust, is 20-30 percent higher than that of general vacuum cleaners.
During the period from November 2013 to February 2014 when the fine dust problem has become a social issue, the sales of general-type vacuum cleaners marked a positive year-on-year growth of 25 percent.
In particular, the sales of handheld light mini-cleaners rose 35 percent, while the sales of mini cleaners for use in automobiles jumped 40 percent.
