BOHEMIA, NY - CookingSchools.com, a leading online directory of culinary schools in Florida, explains how chefs can become a master of cooking with fish.
According to a March 3rd article posted on the Tampa Bay Times, knowing how to prepare fish can be very useful as a chef. Fish is a very delicate food, but with proper preparation, it can be easy and enjoyable to cook.
The article gives a list of 10 tips for preparing and cooking fish. Andrew Girard, a representative for CookingSchools.com, reveals his favorite tips and discusses how cooking different types of meals can help chefs improve their skills. Here are three tips on how to become a master of cooking fish:
- Don't overcook the fish- "Fish is meant to be soft and tender," Girard says. "Check your fish often when cooking to avoid overcooking. This could leave your filet dry and tasteless."
- Know the fish you are working with- "Before attempting to cook a certain fish, try it at a restaurant or cooked by someone that's familiar with that fish. It is important to know what the fish should taste like after being properly cooked," he says.
- Do not refreeze fish- "Refreezing fish takes away flavor and makes the fish mushy when cooked. Always try to cook fish fresh to ensure the best flavor and texture," Girard advises.
