SEOUL, KOREA – Samsung Electronics has snatched up over 10% of the global semiconductor market, narrowing the gap with market leader Intel. According to market research firm IHS iSuppli, Samsung Electronics’ 2012 sales of semiconductors grew 0.9% year-on-year to USD 31.26 billion, making up 10.3% of the global market.
Above all, Samsung’s 2012 system semiconductor sales surged 46.6% year-on-year to USD 11.15 billion. With growth in sales of mobile application processors (AP), Samsung’s share of the global system semiconductor market also rose from 3.3% to 4.9%.
Intel last year raked in USD 47.4 billion in sales (down 2.7% from 2011), maintaining the No.1 spot with a market share of 15.6% (down from 15.7% in 2011). Qualcomm’s share of the global market gained 5.8%.
Samsung’s share of the global semiconductor memory market fell from 35.7% in 2011 to 35.4% in 2012, but Samsung has still seized the No.1 position. Meanwhile, SK Hynix Inc.’s share of the global semiconductor memory market grew from 15.8% in 2011 to 16.6% in 2012.

삼성전자•하이닉스, 지난해 반도체 시장 영향력 확대
삼성전자가 세계 반도체 시장에서 처음 점유율 10%를 돌파했다. 메모리 치킨 게임이 끝나고 시스템 반도체 역시 승자독식 시장으로 옮기면서 사상 첫 두자릿수대 점유율을 기록한 것이다. 1위 업체 인텔과 간격도 좁혔다.
2일 시장조사업체 아이서플라이에 따르면 지난해 삼성전자 반도체 매출액은 312억6400만달러로 전 세계 시장의 10.3%를 차지했다. 지난 2011년(매출액 285억6300만달러) 9.2%에 비해 0.9% 상승했다.
특히 시스템 반도체 매출액은 전년 대비 46.6%(매출액 111억5200만달러)나 신장했다. 모바일 애플리케이션프로세서(AP) 판매량이 늘면서 시스템반도체 점유율도 3.3%에서 4.9%로 확대됐다.
미국 인텔은 지난해 474억2000만달러 매출액을 올려 1위를 유지했지만 전년보다 2.7% 감소한 수치다. 시장 점유율도 15.7%에서 15.6%로 줄었고 퀄컴은 점유율을 5.8% 늘렸다.
메모리 반도체 분야는 삼성전자 시장 점유율이 35.4%로 2011년 보다 35.7% 줄었지만 여전히 1위를 고수했다. SK하이닉스는 16.6%로 15.8%를 점유했던 그 전해 대비 증가했다.
