Kia Motors Kicks off Sales of Soul EV

Friday, April 11th, 2014

SEOUL, KOREA - Kia Motors kick-started the sales of Soul Electric Vehicle on April 10 after setting its retail price at 42.5 million won.

A buyer of a Soul EV will be entitled a subsidy of 15 million won from the Ministry of Environment and an additional subsidy of 9 million won from the municipal government. In other words, the buyer can get the electric vehicle at a price effectively lower than that of the same-class gasoline-fueled model.

Considering that the amount of subsidy differs by municipal government, consumers can purchase the Soul EV at a price ranging from 18.5 million won to 24.5 million won.

With a single charging, the Soul EV can run up to the distance of 148 kilometers. Rapid charging takes 24-33 minutes, while slow charging takes 4 hours and 20 minutes.

It takes 11.2 second for the Soul EV to reach the speed of 100 km an hour from zero, with its maximum speed estimated at 145 km per hour.

The Soul EV has a maximum output of 81.4 kW and a maximum torque of 285 Nm. Since it uses an electric motor only, the model is free from engine noise.
