SEOUL, KOREA - BMW Korea showed off a pure electric vehicle i3, the first of its kind in the brand’s history, on April 24.BMW Korea held a new car presentation at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza on the day and introduced BMWi, a sub-brand of BMW which presents a sustainable mobility solution. The i3 is the first model of the BMWi brand.
The i3 realizes a wide indoor space and a high level of safety by separating a life module with a drive module, a method that is similar to the body-on-frame.The brand-new electric car features a length of 3.99 meters, a width of 1.78 meters, and a height of 1.58meters.
BMW explained that this model is applied with super-light materials such as CFRP and aluminum for drive modules. Although the vehicle weight in an empty state is light at 1,300kg, it is strong enough to ensure the safety of the driver even in cases where it collides at the speed of 64km per hour.
The weight of i3 is about 200kg lighter than that of its rival model Soul EV (1,508kg) from Kia Motors.
