SEOUL, KOREA - Chevrolet sold 13,151 units of passenger cars in the first quarter of this year in Korea, grabbing a market share of 10.3 percent.

This figure is up 0.8 percentage point compared to 9.5 percent a year ago. The rise in sales of Chevrolet is meaningful, particularly considering that the sales of its light commercial vehicles whose production halted from last year declined by about 3,000 units. This means the share of Chevrolet increased in the passenger car segment.

According to GM Korea on April 28, the sales of light commercial vehicles such as Damas and Labo, which stood at 4,579 units in the first quarter of last year, fell to 1,434 units in the January-March period of this year. In contrast, the sales of its passenger vehicles jumped to 32,900 units this year from 23,800 units a year ago.

Among Chevrolet brands, Malibu achieved outstanding performances. With the addition of a diesel engine, the sales of Malibu reached 3,263 units in the first quarter, up 49.7 percent year on year. The strengthened diesel sedan image produced favorable influences on the sales of Cruze Diesel, with the sales of Cruze models rising 52.5 percent year on year to 4,082 units.
