Korando Sports Emerge as Flagship Model for Ssangyong Motor

SEOUL, KOREA - Korando Sports emerged as Ssangyong Motor’s flagship model, with its share in Ssangyong Motor’s total sales reaching 30 percent.

According to Ssangyong Motor on April 28, its domestic sales stood at 5,850 units in March 2014, with its share in the domestic passenger car market estimated at 5.1 percent, of which 2 percent was occupied by Korando Sports.

A company official said, “Although Korando Sports is classified as a truck, we internally view it as one of SUVs.” Key factors behind the rising popularity of Korando Sports include its effective marketing targeting the niche between passenger cars and trucks.

As a five-seat model with a storage space of more than 2 square meters, Korando Sports is classified as a truck and is subject to a low tax of 28,500 won per year. Industry experts said that SUVs are gaining an ever-rising popularity since they can be used for various purposes. Korando Sports look like an SUV but classified as a truck, thereby enabling its owners to save lots of maintenance cost.
