Hyundai Motor to Release Sonata Hybrid in Ecuador

SEOUL, KOREA - Hyundai Motor announced on May 13 that it will release Sonata Hybrid in Ecuador within May and make forays into the Latin American eco-friendly car market.

For Sonata Hybrid targeting the Latin American market, Hyundai Motor has developed a new HPCU, a device that controls the power of engine and motor, aimed at making Sonata Hybrid to better fit local terrains of Lain America with many mountainous areas.

Sonata Hybrid, accordingly, is primed with a strengthened hill-climbing capability, excellent hybrid efficiency and a driving performance tailored to meet the specific local needs.

Ecuador is a country that is meaningful for Hyundai Motor which started exports in 1976 when it shipped six units of Pony cars to Ecuador. Starting from Ecuador, Hyundai Motor plans to expand its export outlets in Latin America towards Chile, Colombia, and the Bahamas. The size of the Latin American car market is estimated at 3.42 million units this year. The demand for hybrid cars is estimated at about 3,500.
