Abundant flexible mobile devices will be introduced into the market from next year at the earliest.

LG Display decided to follow the suit of Samsung Display which recently disclosed intention to increase the output of flexible OLEDs.

Accordingly, more than 1 million units of flexible smartphones and tablets will likely to be released into the market from late next year at the earliest.

According to a market research firm DisplaySearch, LG Display plans to launch investment from October to expand the monthly output of its 4.5G (730 x 920mm) flexible OLED line in Paju, Gyeonggi province, up to 18,000 sheets from the current 10,000. This line has been engaged in production of OLED displays for LG Electronics’ flexible smartphone G Flex.

LG Display is also reviewing the idea of setting up new production line. A single sheet of 4.5G substrate is enough to make 40 units of G Flex.

Prior to LG Display’s move, Samsung Display decided to set up a new 6G line in Asan in South Chungcheong province with a monthly production capacity of 15,000 sheets.
