SEOUL, KOREA - Daelim Group said on June 30 that the combined-cycle thermal power plant that it built in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province, will be operational by July 1. The No. 1 power plant will have a capacity of 780 megawatts, with the second plant to be operational from August this year having the same capacity.
Under the government's fifth electric power supply plan in 2010, Daelim Group won the licenses to run private sector-built power plants. The first plant was broken ground in September 2011 at the cost of 1.2 trillion won and has taken 32 months for completion and pilot operation. In addition to Daelim with the 33.3-percent stake in the project, Taeyoung Construction is also a partial owner (15.6%) to the plant.
Daelim Energy, established in December last year for the sole purpose of operating power plants its parent group builds, will take charge of managing the Pocheon plant. Based on liquefied natural gas, the combined-cycle power plant has reduced substantially emissions of pollutants and nitrogenous compounds. As the plant makes use of both gas turbines and steam turbines at the same time, it can generate electricity with the energy efficiency 11 percent higher than coal-fired power plants.
