SEOUL, KOREA - The smartphone subscription fees will likely to be lowered by up to 12,000 won within August. mVoIP will also be available regardless of smartphone fee systems. The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning revealed a plan to lower family telecom fees for 2014 on June 30.
Under this plan, the mobile phone subscription fees will be reduced by 50 percent compared to a year ago within August or September of this year. The subscription fee will be phased out until the end of 2015.
The subscription fee, accordingly, will be lowered from 23,760 won to 11,880 won for SK Telecom, from 14,400 won to 7,200 won for KT and from 18,000 won to 9,000 for LG U+. The ministry expects this measure to reduce subscribers’ burdens by up to 170 billion won per year.
In addition, the prices of USIM, which stand at between 8,800 won and 9,900 won, will be lowered by 10 percent. mVoIP services will also be available regardless of smartphone fee systems.
