
Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Kwon Oh-hyun says, "Make our system semiconductor the best in the world“
Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Kwon Oh-hyun revealed his strong will by saying, “We will jack up the system semiconductor business to a top of the world level much like our memory semiconductor, by actively using Samsung-possessed convergence technology.” Comparing it with the brain of human beings, memory semiconductor refers to the part containing memory and system semiconductor is the part for calculation. CPU of computer is a representative system semiconductor.
Vice Chairman Kwon made these remarks at a meeting with reporters after receiving the “2014 Korea’s Best Science Technology Man Award” in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning building in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province on July 9th. He was selected as the winner of in recognition of contributing to Korea’s semiconductor industry by developing the 64-mega DRAM, a sort of memory semiconductor, the first of its kind in the world.
Samsung, which is suffering from a fall in business results owing to saturation of the smartphone market, is seeking new chance in the basic sensor technology and convergence trend. Noting that products and technologies are converging with each other, Vice Chairman Kwon said, “Samsung has strong points for convergence.” He said, “Internet of Things is a representative field that requires convergence technology. Samsung hold a strong position in this.”
Internet of Things means that in which people attach a censor to all things they use in daily life and make smart equipment by connecting them to the Internet. Samsung is a general home appliance maker, produces semiconductors, TVs, and refrigerators. In addition, Samsung ranks first or approaches to a top-level in the world in this field. Samsung is the right company armed with optimal conditions that can attach a censor to all equipment and connect them to the Internet.
Regarding Samsung’s lawsuit against Apple, its position on Pantech, and countermeasures against the recent fall in business results, Vice Chairman Kwon avoided answering immediately saying, “I cannot answer those questions here.”
