Adding business and humanities to security
Friday, July 18th, 2014

'Security battle',which was started on Facebook, is the place for security technicians to exchange their information and opinions.

To overcome limits, they have decided to add an element of humanitand the business mind to security. Mr. Kim Joseph, leader of 'security battle', says we need to have a new vision toward security to overcome the limits of security from laws and government regulations.

What is the objective of 'security battle' and what does it do?

'Security battle' was formed understand the lack of respect towards security technicians of KoreaIT powerhouses. We have considered what is needed to resolve this issue and concluded that we are able to find the answer in business and humanities. Since then, we have monthly meetingnamed 'global human multi-step project.'

The 'Global human multi-step project' is about our goal to strengthen the human network as no one can solve all problems by themselves.

We have made great achievementsunder the mindset of building a human network with the idea that we get more than expected.

Fraud Detection System (FDS) is one that understands people.

No hierarchical relations can be found in 'security battle', a community of more than 1800 members with positive spirit, even though they are against one another at work. It aims at offering a new vision of security by using different concepts.

These days, security systems have comeunderstand people more so than the previous one, this is a hopeful sign.

I think that FDS is on the front line as they have an idea about the publics financial behaviors and habits. The concepts of humanities and business are also involved. This is exactly what 'security battle' is looking for.

What do you make of the overseas entrance by Korea's security industry and does it have a competitive edge compared with other security leaders?

Korea's strong IT infrastructure improves its technologies but the link with other industries is weak.

Developing a great technology is important but what actually matters more is using it effectively as a part of a business. In other words, what we need to do is to come to the stage of generalizing and standardizing products by using our technologies.

I think security technology should be something that people can feel comfortable with, particularly when using it. And it should be standardized internationally, however in reality this is not how it works.

I believe focusing on the business and usability of technology will help develop it towards becoming human-oriented and standardized.

A lot of developed countries are using Korea as a test bed for IT related products. This includes several kinds of hardware and security technologies as there are a lot of early adopters in this country. In terms of security technology in particular, it is no exaggeration that Korea offers the best environment as it must go through several tests and revisions to find and fix errors before its launch.

Last but not least, what is the goal of 'security battle'?

While in the U.S. private associations publish powerful reports on security technology and its standardization, in Korea, several relevant forums and conferences do not play their roles effectively. We want to play that role by becoming the private organization whose members’policy suggestions and discussion are effective and useful.
