Smartphone-based Paperless Passbook to Make a Debut

Thursday, July 31st, 2014
SEOUL, KOREA - A new mobile bank passbook will be introduced soon. Woori Bank said on July 30 that it would launch the "Woori Mobile Passbook" in August by which users can make transactions such as fund deposit, withdrawal, and loan extension with their smartphones. Users of smartphones based on the Android operating system can download the app from August 1. Those who use Apple iOS-based smartphones can download the app from the 11th.

Currently bank customers who want to withdraw cash out of an ATM must take a paper-based passbook or a debit card. In contrast, mobile passbook customers will be able to take out money with a smartphone and the input of a password.

Those customers with a multiple number of accounts including savings account, installment savings account, loan account, and fund and insurance accounts can manage them easily with the smartphone app. Kwak Sang-il, Woori Bank's head of the smart banking division, said, "Until now, most mobile banking services allowed simple fund transfer and balance inquiry. But our mobile passbook can perfectly replace the conventional paper-based passbook."
