SEOUL, KOREA - The sales of import cars in Korea reached 18,000 units last month, renewing the monthly record again for two straight months.
The Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association announced on August 6 that the sales of import cars reached 18,112 units last month, up 21.1 percent from a year ago and up 1.7 percent from a month ago.
For the January-July period of this year, the sales of import cars totaled 112,375 units, up 25.6 percent from a year before.
By brand, BMW was sold 3,363 units last month, followed by Mercedes-Benz with 3,349 units, Volkswagen with 3,157 units, and Audi with 2,860 units. Germany’s big four brands swept the top-four spots.
By model, Volkswagen’s Tiguan 2.0 TDI Blue Motion was sold 906 units, becoming the best-selling import car model. Audi A6 2.0 TDI ranked No. 2 with 681 units. BMW 520d slipped to No. 3 with 550 units.
By engine displacement, those with less than 2.0 liters were sold 9,968 units, accounting for 55 percent in total sales.
