SEOUL, KOREA - Samsung Electronics plans to unveil Gear Solo, a follow-up model of its wearable Gear series, next month. Gear Solo, just as its name implies, would have its own phone number and enable users to make calls.
According to industry sources on August 7, Samsung Electronics will likely to show off Galaxy Note 4 and smart wristwatch Gear Solo in Berlin, Germany, early next month.
The smart wristwatches that Samsung Electronics has released so far, including Galaxy Gear, Samsung Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, and Gear Fit, had no phone call features and could be used only through connection with smartphones.
Gear Solo, however, can have its own phone number as it has its own USIM chip. The Gear Solo is designed to use 3G telecom network. If a USIM chip is not inserted, the Gear Solo can perform like any other Gear lineup models.
In its previous smart device unpack events, Samsung Electronics showed off Galaxy Gear together with Galaxy Note 3 and Samsung Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit together with Galaxy S5.
