SEOUL, KOREA - Samsung Electronics is gearing up to dominate the fast-growing mobile DRAM market. The company launched the mass-production of 25 nano-DDR3 mobile DRAMs six months ahead of its rivals, while embarking on investment to expand production capacity.

This is part of its strategy to establish an unrivaled position in the mobile DRAM market by supplying superior products faster than its rivals. Samsung Electronics announced on April 30 that it launched the mass-production of 25 nano-4Gb DDR3 mobile DRAMs. This is the first time among the mobile DRAM industry to mass-produce 20 nano-DDR3 chips.

Compared to existing 30 nano-DRAMs, 20 nano-DDR3 DRAMs boasts a 30-percent improvement in performance and a 20-percent reduction in electricity consumption.

Together with the mass-production of 25 nano models, Samsung Electronics also plans to invest more than 1 trillion won to replace Hwaseong 13 Line's old mobile DRAM production facilities with new ones.

Along with a rise in smartphone sales, the mobile DRAM market is expanding at a rapid pace. According to a market research firm Gartner, the world's mobile DRAM market is expected to expand to $10.3 billion this year from $4.9 billion in 2011.
