SEOUL, KOREA - The market value of SK Telecom has reached a peak of 18.87 trillion won at 1:39 pm on May 14, moving up to the ninth position in the Korea Exchange market cap ranking. It took more than three years for the company to regain the top-ten status after losing grounds in March 2010. Early this year, its capitalization value rose to 12.15 trillion won and has since steadily gained from 16th in the ranking.
Also within the group, SK Telecom has emerged as the highest-cap company displacing SK Innovation. On May 2, the market cap for SK Innovation shrank to a level of 14.60 trillion won, allowing SK Telecom to overtake it with a 14.81-trillion-won market value. SK Telecom has since increased the gap with its brethren by more than 4 trillion won.
Ahn Jae-min, an analyst with Kiwoom Securities, said, "SK Telecom is gradually evolving into an organization focusing on service-oriented competition away from cutthroat competition based on low prices. It has also introduced an innovative rate scheme that would satisfy customers while at the same time contributing to its bottom line."
