SEOUL, KOREA - Hyundai Motor's Equus obtained a higher rating than its rivals Mercedes-Benz S Class and BMW 7 Series in the Middle East. Hyundai Motor announced on May 21 that its Equus was picked as the best luxury sedan at the Car of the Year 2013 Awards by the Auto Mobile magazine, a leading automobile magazine in the Middle East.
This is the second time for Equus to be selected as the car of the year in the Middle East. It was picked as the car of the year by a local auto magazine Sports Auto at the end of last year.
A Hyundai Motor official said, "We expect this award to contribute to increasing our sales in the Middle East, a region where high-end cars are selling better than other regions, as well as improving the brand image of Equus further there."
Hyundai Motor sold 4,119 units of Equus and Genesis in this region last year and 1,535 units during the January-April period of this year. Hyundai Motor aims to sell 5,800 units this year.
