Kakao PC Version Set to Be Released Soon

Thursday, May 30th, 2013

SEOUL, KOREA - A personal computer version of Korea's largest mobile messenger KakaoTalk is set to be released soon. Kakao announced on May 29 that the trial test of its KakaoTalk PC version is at a final stage and the PC version is scheduled to make an official launch within next month.

The Kakao PC version will be released based on the opinions of those who participated in the beta test. Kakao selected 10,000 people this March to launch the Beta test. The Kakao PC version will be almost similar to the mobile version. Compared to the mobile version, the PC version will have no new features.

The PC version is designed to focus on basic chats. Photo files on computer can be shared through KakaoTalk chat windows. A variety of emoticons will also be available. To use Kakao's PC version, users should go through the process of registering their PCs and accounts.

At present, SK Communications' NateOn is dominating Korea's PC messenger market with a share of 80 percent. Attention is growing over what changes Kakao's PC version will bring about in the PC messenger market.
